Spelling It Out

A Christian spelling out life… God's way

Wrestling In Prayer

Sorry I didn’t post last week, so this week I am posting two posts to make up. Here is the second.

How great does it feel when someone tells you that they are praying for you, especially when you have talked to them about some problems that are going on in your life or they just care about you? It’s humbling isn’t it?

But what about wrestling in prayer for you, crying out to God about your needs, even losing sleep to pray for you. Do you pray like that for others, for your church, for your country, even for yourself? The Bible says the effectual reverent prayers of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).

What, how and where we pray does matter if we have a problem we should pray and be specific. Yes God does know what we are going to say before we ask but praying gives him permission to do something (sometimes God does do things for us even though we only thought of it and haven’t prayed but he still likes to hear us ask).
The length of the prayer doesn’t matter, it can be a quick 2 seconds or a drawn out 2 hours but prayer is a conversation, so God will want to talk back and respond to you, so if you are going for the 2 hour option give yourself time to be quiet and listen or meditate on what you just said, and don’t spend your time repeating yourself.

I think the problem I have (and I am sure others have it too) is that I pray for myself for most of my prayer time then forget to pray for others I tried to make a list and then pray before I go to bed but I would fall asleep before I got through it, but the great thing is God is everywhere and a quick 2 second prayer is a prayer. So if a person comes across my mind at any time I pray for them there and then even if I am on the bus, in maths class, in church, watching T.V. It’s much easier that way I don’t forget people and it builds up in me the praying regularly (but it’s important to make time in a quiet room to pray for a while and have time to listen for a response)

I guess wrestle puts in our mind the idea of fighting, well we are, prayer is one of our greatest weapons, it allows God to move and the enemy to flee, and we can fight for others who are finding the fight hard. We should put this weapon to good use.

Words of Encouragement

I will trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not unto my own understanding.
For when I have faith as a mustard seed I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
He can do exceedingly; abundantly above all I can ask or think according to the power that worketh in me.
For greater is he that is in me than he who is in the world.
No weapon formed against me shall prosper. For by his stripes I am healed.
He has plans to prosper me and has given me life abundantly.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Prayer Of My Soul

God my soul wishes to please you but my flesh does not.

I know I am no longer a slave to it but it seems to be winning.

I am continually losing the battle of my mind, I stand up yet I fall again.

I repeat to myself Philippians 4:8 but I fail to keep it.

My heart is frustrated but you still forgive me and your blood washes me anew.

God my soul wishes to please you and today I declare I shall!
